Religion Teachers or Catechists are an important ministry of our Parish. They work closely with parents in providing basic faith education for our Children. At St. Augustine we have found that our most effective way of helping our parents meet their responsibility of passing on their faith to their children, is by holding a Catechetical Day on the 2nd Saturday of each Month, September through May. The children gather in the Church at 1:00 PM for a general orientation to the day and then they break into their various age groups until about 3:45 PM. All come back together at 4:00 PM for a special liturgy geared to the children. Parents are asked and encouraged to come back to join their children at this Mass. Sacramental preparation classes are also provided for children preparing for First Holy Communion and Confirmation. Lay Catechist are in charge of these classes. All Catechists are required to be certified through the Diocesan Religious Education Office. Full certification is a gradual process. A person does not have to complete all of the courses before beginning to serve as a Catechist. Call the Church Office for more information.
